A number of people have asked us to discuss overall trip costs for a typical resort vacation.  Cancun is one of our most popular destinations. We hope you enjoy our article - please contact us if you have comments or questions. [published - Oct., 2005]

For the purpose of this article we have taken an actual 5 day 4 night trip to Cancun from Atlanta to be made by two of our clients who will travel for their badly needed vacation in November of 2005 - on a packaged tour arranged by one of our quality suppliers.

** Airfare - Exclusive Charter - Per Person - $236.99 - or two for $473.98

** Mexico Government Fees [Taxes] - Per Person - $85.76 - or two for $171.52

** US Airport 911 Security Fee - Per Person - $7.00 - or two for $14.00

** R/T Transfers from the CUN airport to the resort is no charge in our package price.

>> Sub Total - just to get there - $ 329.75ea -- or $659.50 for two  {always date specific}

This client ‘initially’ chose a 3 Star All-inclusive Resort near the South end of ‘the hotel zone’-- featuring all meals and snacks, beach and pool activities, beverages, onsite entertainment, 2 restaurants, 1 pool - all at a 9 story 187 room condo resort where the last major renovation was done in 1993 - for a complete vacation price of $877.40 - for the two.

Let’s do the math together ... This resort hotel costs a total of only $ 217.90 -  within the package or about $54 total per night - [$27 each] per person per night.  This was a good deal - all things considered - but at a property we always represent as a ‘moderate’.

Further consultation with this client pointed out that a truly better 5 Star All- Inclusive Resort was on sale during the same time period - traveling on the same airplane with the required US and Mexico Fees already applied -- but could be theirs at a very special price.  The 5 Star Resort we suggested for consideration was built in 2001 - located in the center of the World Famous Cancun Hotel Zone - near a prominent shopping mall and dozens of exciting fun and mostly free Cancun activities. It features 3 pools, 2 Oceanside Jacuzzis, 8 bars, a swim-up pool bar with cocktail tables -in the pool-, an active nightly disco and a sports bar, 24 hour food - all part of a 569 room 14 story ultra modern complex with more features than we can list here. The cost per night for this resort property [due to the ongoing sale] was about $65 more per night for a total of $260 above the initial total trip cost for the ‘bargain basement’ resort.  Only $1137.50 -- trip total for the two. Remember - this is to be their five day four night - good time together - absolutely fun vacation - hopefully, a trip to enjoy and remember.

Help this client decide ... the difference is  $260.10

This is what travel agents do for you. We help you decide between various options that may be available to you on any trip you might desire to take.  In this example - the flight portion of your vacation is fixed by specific dates of travel - but you may be able to afford a truly better property.

Disclaimer: * This is a typical trip representation using actual to the penny prices.  These prices were obtained for a specific date, purchased in advance for a specific client and may not be available to others at a later date even though they may request the ‘same trip’. You can be assured though - that the best available prices and properties will always be discussed with you by the agents at GBTC

In conclusion: This couple eventually decided upon an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica.  The decision in part was made necessary by the unexpected hurricane which damaged much of Cancun and some of the ‘points of interest’ they especially wanted to visit. The final cost to Jamaica at a nice 3 Star moderate resort was $1361.14. Different resorts cost different amounts - different countries cost proportionately different amounts.  Cancun is usually the best bargain - with Jamaica most often running a good second. At GBTC - we will always work with you to find a destination that meets your expectations and suits your budget.  We always look for the ‘specials’ - because they can often place you at a better resort for not too much more money.
